Where is The elai Project?
The elai Project is any and everywhere. It’s in your backyard, the house you rent, the mortgage company, the library, the hospital. The point is that The elai Project is and should be anywhere a disabled person is.
Oh you mean, where are we starting elai?
The selection of a partner for a new policy program is always a challenge. It takes a lot of time to craft new policy, and The elai Project is looking to be a game changer. We are looking for the willingness to try something new, to make new rules, and to retrain staff. Availability of resources is also a consideration. For a policy involving accommodating disabled persons, there has to be an existing need in the community, and a diverse population to be served.
With a goal to ensure all libraries across the US are fully accessible, the library we choose needs to be an influencer – a library that other libraries respect and listen to. That library will have to be part of a network of libraries. We want to ensure that the pilot program for elai is noticed by other libraries.
To that end, we are soliciting applications from libraries across the country to be the first library for implementation of The elai Project Please email our Director, Brenda Hart Neihouse, at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
